Opening weekend for the Spot Lounge

There’s a moment most evenings when the plates are cleared and the room shifts. The lights drop to a warm gold, the music rises, and The Spot Lounge stops being a restaurant and becomes something else entirely: Birmingham’s newest Afro lounge. This is the part of the night we built the place for.

Step inside after dark and the whole space feels lit by lantern-light, all deep tones and soft glow, with a soundtrack pulled from across the diaspora, Afrobeats and amapiano and the odd slow-burn classic. It’s a room made for lingering, whether you’re two people sharing a booth or a table of ten in the middle of a celebration.

The bar is where things get interesting. We take familiar spirits and reroute them through African ingredients, so the Chapman Noir turns Nigeria’s beloved Chapman into something grown-up, all hibiscus and cucumber with a kick of spiced ginger beer. The Ògógóró Fizz leans on a local craft spirit, brightened with lemongrass and tigernut orgeat. And the Palm Wine Sgroppino, chilled palm wine folded into tamarind sorbet, is unlike anything else you’ll drink in this city. Every pour is meant to taste like somewhere.

However you like your nights, the lounge tends to fit. It’s date night and birthday and after-work wind-down and the opening act for a big one, all in the same room. Come for cocktails and stay for the atmosphere, or roll straight through from dinner without ever leaving your seat.
